Psalmody
There are many resources available to assist with learning and singing psalms in worship at home and at church. The particular book used in our congregation is Sing Psalms with the Scottish Psalter, published by the Free Church of Scotland. A free phone app is available for Sing Psalms and a separate free app for the Scottish Psalter, which is called 1650 as this was the year of its introduction in Scotland. You can find these in Google Play or Apple App store.
- Free Church Psalm Resources – From here you can download the Sing Psalms app, as well as the full text of Sing Psalms in pdf and powerpoint. There’s also a link to a Youtube channel with many recordings of congregational singing in both 1650 Psalter and Sing Psalms versions with words on screen so you can sing along.
- The Psalms Sung – An extensive online resource with over 700 recordings of metrical psalms sung. Includes Sing Psalms, 1650 Psalter, Irish RP Psalter and American RP Psalter.
- Play it again, Psalm – Learn four-part harmonies for around 20 tunes with this Youtube site which helpfully breaks down each into its component parts, providing the music score and simple audio for soprano, alto, tenor and bass. Not an extensive collection, but helpful.
- PCEA Psalms – An ever expanding collection of psalms in four-part harmony, mostly from Sing Psalms version and mostly sung by the psalmody group of the Brisbane PCEA congregation. Words are on screen so you can sing along too.
- Seedbed Psalter – A curated list of tunes (mp3), organised according to metre. A great resource, especially for those not able to read music. Easily find and learn tunes to match the metre of the psalm you want to sing.
